Lerwick Spurs emphatically progressed to the third round of the Highland Amateur Cup with a 9-1 victory over Westside at Culbokie.
The Milkbags faced the Isle of Lewis outfit in last years’ competition, emerging 4-1 victors in Helmsdale, and were four goals up inside half an hour.
Andrew Flett opened the scoring with a back post finish from Connel Gresham’s cross in the ninth minute. Spurs then added a second and third with Jae Barclay’s precision corners meeting Josh Carroll and Sam Ward in the Westside goalmouth.
Flett then grabbed his second of the game in similar fashion to his first by meeting a Gresham cross at the back post with a diving header. Lewis Harkness rounded out the first half scoring with a driven effort after cutting in from the left wing.
Westside’s Luke MacKay came close to pulling one back, but was met by fellow Inverness Athletic teammate Aiden Mackenzie in the Spurs goal, who was standing in for the injured Taylor Lynch.

Spurs showed no signs of letting up after the restart and Carroll grabbed his second and Spurs’ sixth with a long-ranged strike. Substitute Sean Nicol was next to appear on the scoresheet after turning home a Harkness cross.
Connor Grant made it eight before the spirited Westside grabbed a consolation through Alex John Morrison. In the final moments Gresham marked his return to the Spurs side with a goal from 18 yards.
Spurs will face last years’ finalists Inver in the third round on June 20th, whilst fellow Shetland side Whalsay visit Ardersier. Should both Shetland sides emerge victorious, they will face each other in the quarter-finals.
