Dean Donaldson’s side progress to the quarter final of the Morrisons Motors Aberdeenshire Shield, setting up a tie against Formartine at North Lodge Park.

Fraser Mackie opened the scoring for the Young Dons in the 4th minute, thundering the ball home from close range after a goalmouth scramble.

Cole Anderson would equalise for Locos on the half-hour mark, taking advantage of an error from Rodrigo Vitols in the Dons goal. His drop from a Daniel Agnew’s cross was calmly slotted home by the Locos number 9.

Mackie came close to a brace at the end of the first half, but saw his shot rise over the bar.

Inverurie has numerous chances down the left in the early stages of the second half, and looked to tire Aberdeen as the game progressed.

A Mark Soutar header forced a fine save from Vitols from a deep free kick, with a quick Aberdeen counter opportunity wasted right after. Cameron Wilson covered half the pitch before cutting in and slotting the ball wide.

Findlay Marshall cracked the post in the 78th minute, then the crossbar 2 minutes later through Dylan Ross, during the Dons’ most dominant spell of the half.

With penalties looming Locos got a free kick on the edge of the box. Vitols was beaten but Callum Duncan’s shot was just over the bar.

With 88 minutes on the clock Cole Anderson was fouled in the penalty box by Timothy Akindileni. Skipper Paul Coutts stepped up and slotted the ball home for Inverurie.

Aberdeen almost forced penalties with Marshall hitting the post for a second time, but it was Inverurie Locos who advance to the quarter final against Formartine United.

Full time: Inverurie Locos 2-1 Aberdeen
