In a weekend that looked in trouble from severe snow and adverse conditions, all but one Scottish Cup fourth round fixture survived, from Ayr to Dingwall. Fans trekked across the country from all top five leagues, to witness a mixture of surprises and predictable results. The four remaining teams from the North East looked to be in the last 16, and in the hat for the fifth round draw.

Clyde (0) Vs ABERDEEN (2)

The opening game of the weekend resulted in the first survivor from the North East, as Aberdeen overcame Clyde, Live on BBC Scotland. Aberdeen, in their aurora borealis inspired away kit, fielded a strong side- captained by Graham Shinnie and led at the front by Bojan Miovski. Clyde came closest in the opening 30, as Connor Young’s curling effort rebounded off the post. Moments later, Miovski strike found its way through the Clyde defence and into the far corner, giving Aberdeen the lead on 32 minutes- his first goal in the Scottish Cup. Before the end of the half, Miovski almost doubled Aberdeen’s lead, with his effort hitting the crossbar. By this point, many watching at home took to social media to vent their frustration at the TV camera lenses being covered in rain droplets, which was never resolved throughout the game. The second half was a continuation of Aberdeen dominance, and they put the game to bed in the 57th minute, when a Nicky Devlin charge up the wing resulted in the full-backs third goal of the season. Clyde offered little fight in the closing stages, as Aberdeen progressed to the fifth round of the Scottish Cup, where they will welcome Bonnyrigg Rose to Pittodrie.

Brora Rangers (P) Vs COVE RANGERS (P)

With the highlands ravaged by snowfall, there was little surprise when Dudgeon Park succumbed to the weather. The match was rescheduled to the following Tuesday, which was further postponed to the 30th of January. The eventual winners will travel to Rugby Park, for a fifth-round tie against Kilmarnock.

FORFAR ATHLETIC (0) Vs Hibernian (1)

In a packed Station Park, Forfar welcomed a strong Hibernian side, desperate to avoid any potential upset. The tie began with a flurry of Forfar chances, with Hibs requiring the post and a Christian Doidge goal-line clearance to keep the score level. Firmly against the run of play, Hibs were awarded a questionable penalty to the dismay of the home fans. Marc McCallum would become the hero of the first half however, as he saved Joe Newell’s spot kick. Forfar continue their relentless pressure on the premiership side, and Hibs were likely relieved to hear the half time whistle. It would become a tale of two halves, as Hibernian grew into the game, forcing keeper McCallum into numerous excellent saves. It would be heartbreak for The Loons in the 69th minute, when McCallum misjudges a Hibs freekick, allowing Doidge to head home the only goal of the game. The weekend’s action eliminated all remaining Tayside teams, but Forfar can take most pride in their resolute defending and committed attacking. Hibernian will be on the road again, facing Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the fifth round.

Celtic (5) Vs BUCKIE THISTLE (0)

In a game that was only really going to end one way, Buckie Thistle held their own for the opening quarter, before goals from Bernardo, Holm, and Furuhashi put the tie beyond them by half time. Second half goals from Palma and Vata secured a comprehensive victory for Celtic. As the home side will soon look forward to their next cup tie, away to St Mirren, Buckie Thistle and their 2,500 travelling fans will remember the occasion for many years to come.
